Abigail

Sweet, happy, lovable Abigail. Wow, I can't believe my baby is a year. What a wonderful year it has been. It seems like yesterday we brought you home, yet it seems like you have been a part of our family forever. You are full of smiles. You are known as the smiley baby everywhere we go. I can't even count the times that I have heard, "What a happy baby, is she always so happy?" Lately we have had a lot of one on one time. I have loved it! Daddy has taken your older sisters camping some and last week Ellie and Ashlyn were at VBS every night. That left a lot of time for the two of us. We spent a lot of time running errands and strolling the isles of Target waiting to pick up your sisters. You actually love to shop with me. You always laugh and giggle trying to get attention from anyone around you. When someone finally stops to look, you turn your head and act bashful. It's really cute. I love the way you "dance" when music is playing and then when I join you, you laugh so hard. I love it that you say "Mom" and actually mean me. You will crawl towards me, sit up on your knees, reach up your arms, and say "mom". You love to be held and cuddled and I love to hold and cuddle you. I'm looking forward to the upcoming year and watching you continue to grow. It will be fun to hear you talk more, see you start to walk, and watch you interact with your sisters more. I love you Abby.

Rough night at VBS

Ashlyn finally had her first trip to Urgent Care this week. With how active Ashlyn has always been, I am really surprised our first visit didn't happen earlier. While Ashlyn was at Vacation Bible School, she was apparently playing "Ring Around the Rosie" and got a little carried away. She fell and hit her head on the corner of a table. She got a pretty large cut on the back of her ear, going down about half of where her ear attaches to her head. After the chruch finally got a hold of us( I left my cell phone in the car while Eric and I were having dinner... oops!) we took her to Urgent Care. The first place we went to said that she needed stitches but that they were unable to do it. Eric called around and found a Pediatric Urgent Care that would do stitches so I dropped Eric, Abby, and Ellie off at home and Ashlyn and I went. While we were waiting the nurse came out to look at it and made a "ooh" sound and walked off. I wasn't quite sure what to think of that. A few minutes later we were called back and told that the doctor needed to look at it to see if he would be able to do the stitches or if we would need to go to the ER. The doctor came in and was very wishy, washy and not confident... not what you want as a parent. He said that he could not do the stitches because of the location of the cut and that she would either need to go to the ER and be sedated to do the stitches or he could "try" and use glue and glue it back together. He said that the glue would "probably" work but that she couldn't pull or play with it at all... not something I could garauntee with a three year old. During this time I kept thinking to myself where is the confident doctor that says this is my diagnosis and this is what I recommend for treatment. Of course, I didn't want to sedate Ashlyn, but I also wanted to make sure the incision was taken care of. I decided to give the glue a try and so far it looks like it is working well. The doctor did feel like he was able to close the incision well, with the glue, and that it should be fine. They put this bandage on her to protect it and so that she wouldn't play with it in her sleep. This picture was taken when we got home at around 11pm. Amazingly, she had this big smile on her face most of the night. She is one tough little girl!

First Visit from the Tooth Fairy

While we were in Colorado, Ellie lost her first tooth. It had been loose for a while and she just kept on wiggling it until it came out. She was pretty excited about it. She wanted to wait until we got home to Arizona to put it under her pillow. We kept good care of it and when we returned she put it in a bag and placed it under her pillow. The next morning she came in our room and wanted me to come check under her pillow to see if the Tooth Fairy had come. I panicked as I realized the "tooth fairy" had forgotten to visit. Fortunately, I was able to distract Ellie long enough for Eric to complete the mission. Ellie was excited to find a dollar bill in place of a tooth. She and Ashlyn have differing theories on how the Tooth Fairy got to our house. Ellie thinks she flew and Ashlyn thinks she drove a pink car with flowers. I can't believe that my biggest baby is old enough to loose a tooth. Time just goes by way too fast!

Visit with G.G.

After the reunion in Colorado, we drove to Nebraska to see my Grandma. We call her GG for Great Grandma. The girls were really excited to see her. She has spent time in Arizona during the Winter months so the girls have gotten to know her and are really drawn to her. This was the first time they had been to GG's house and they were excited to see where she lived. GG is now 93 years old and won't be able to come to Arizona anymore. We cherished the time we were able to spend with her in Nebraska.

Unruh Family Reunion

We all had a great time at the Unruh Family Reunion in Colorado last week. We were able to spend time with all of Eric's immediate family and also many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. We were also able to meet our newest niece, Meredith. We had fun hiking, playing miniature golf, doing crafts and the kids loved playing with their cousins. After spending time in Colorado we drove to Nebraska, which made it a really long road trip. We figured out that we spent 40 hours in the car in 6 days! The girls did remarkably well, but we are all glad to be home.

We arrived in Colorado on Abby's birthday. Gran bought a cake and ice cream for everyone to enjoy.

One afternoon we hiked up to this waterfall. Abby loved her first hike in the backpack!
